Video Influences
In music videos I like to see different locations because it makes you unaware of what is going to happen next where as if the location is the same then it becomes repetetive. I also like to see a narrative because it makes it relatable therefore the lyrics can be understood more. When thinking about what I wanted for my music video I took inspiration from other Ellie Goulding songs especially 'Burn'. This is because I like the fact that she has a misxture of performance and narrative. She also sometimes has some abstract parts. For example in 'Burn' she has lights all around which is a bit quirky but looks really good. I also like thefact that she doesnt have extravagent costumes in her videos and she puts her personal style in it by wearing casual clothing. This enables you to relate to her more because you see her peronality come through in her videos so you feel like you know her more personally.
I also like it when people use diffrent cinematography in thier videos such as different camera shots to represtent status etc. I also like effects like slow motion and pans because I think they are really effective and make you feel like you are in the video. The video for 'Dont judge me by Chris Brown' uses slow motion a lot and it feels like you are walking with him to the army camp.
I like the video for 'Shelter' by Birdy because her locataions are all outside. I like the way they blur some of the shots because they song is quite sad and slow so it is like your watching the video through teary eyes. I think this techniques is effective because it isnt a popular one to use and think it would look good in some parts of my video.
I also really like the video for 'Yours' by Ella Henderson because some of the shots would be appropriate for my music video. For example in this shot you can see Ella's refelction as she looks out of the window as wel as the buildings outside as if she is looking at past her reflection which I could use when my character is putting on make up to show that she is trying to look past her reflection and see that she is good enough for the boy.
