Final digipak

This is the final outcome of my digipak. I am quite pleased with this as I have kept the theme throughout however if I were to create this again I would have used a higher quality camera to get a better picture for my digipak. I havent changed much from the old draft apart from made all of the images the same size and added the spines. I also decided not to use the overlay, since speaking with my teacher, we decided that the images were a bit repetitive therefore now the coloured images look a lot clearer whilst they still fit in with the theme.

Evaluation Question 3 (What have you learned from your audience feedback)

I asked two people, who do media, to watch my final video and give me some feedback since they are aware of the conventions of music videos therefore they could give me feedback based on their knowledge. I asked the following questions:

  • Is it engaging?
  • Do you like it?
  • Do you like how I filmed it? (Techniques used)
  • Do you think theres a narrative? if so, what is it?
  • What would you change/improve?

They said that they liked the overlay of Maia to show that she is under the influence of alcohol and drugs etc. However they thought the camera quality let it down slightly which I completely agree with. If I were going to film this video again I would deffinatly have planned ahead and booked out one of the Canon 1200D which would have made the footage clearer and less blurred. I learned that both people had a different opinion of the narrative which was quite good really because I aimed for the audience to have their own perspective on the artsist journey/storyline.

Here is some written feedback that I got from my friends, that don't do media, for my music video. I wanted to get an opinion on a few people that don't have any media knowledge to see if they like it despite not knowing conventions because then I can see if it is succesfull or not. They all said that the camera quality could have been improved which I agree with because it looks slightly ammetur and unprofessional. One person said that they liked the locations which was really positive because I was unsure about having so many locations as many music videos only have three.

Overall I have learned a lot from my feedback to help me improve my products throughout the whole process since many of my ideas have changed completely due to becoming more aware of the audience's needs/wants etc. I have learned that it is important to get audience feedback because it really helps with the production and made my pieces a lot better. For the end products I learned that I could have used a better video camera to make the footage more sharp and less blurry. I also learned that I should have used a tripod more often to create smoother shots as some were a bit shakey. Despite a few things that I could have improved and changed I am quite happy with the outcome of my products and the audience feedback seems to say that my products were pretty succesfull.

Feedback of my third draft of my music video

I asked a few people to watch this draft of my video. I asked them to give me some feedback at the end. Yasmine suggested that I overlay the door scenes to make them seem more surreal and more of a real representation of what Maia is feeling due to the drugs. I really liked this idea and I will re edit. They also said that they like the long shots at the end as they contrast with the fast paced ones of the 'drunk' scenes. I was unsure if they were too long and boring however they seem to fit the rhythm and tempo of the song. Overall I am happy with the feedback and will take the feedback on board.

Third draft of Digipak

This is the third draft of my music video and hopefully my last. I have completed all of the sections now and just have to put it all together to see if it fits and works well.

Digi pak made

Paper Digi

I decided to make up the digipak on paper to see how it looks and I think it looked quite good. I particularly like the front and back cover because they both link with each other very well. I like the fact that I took screenshots of the video to make up the other images because it gives the audience an insight into what is in the video and keeps the whole package relevant to each other which is conventional. I think I could maybe added more information to the front cover however I like the fact that it is simple because, from  my search, I understand that Indie music is very low budget and the focus is out heavily on the artists talent.

Second draft of digipak

This is the second draft of my digipak. I changed two of the inside cover images because I felt like they were repetitive since I used the same pictures for everything however it still connects the whole package together since I took screenshots of my actual music video.

4th draft of magazine advert

This is my fourth draft of my music magazine advert. I showed my previous draft to my teacher who suggested that I take away the box around Maia and make her image bigger to establish her as an artist more which I agreed with , as before, it was quite small and it didn't draw enough attention to her. I also think that the fact that her face blends into the marina shows links to the actual video keeping the theme going throughout.

Feedback of music video

Here is some feedback that I got off my dad. I agree with his comments therefore will make some changes to my video.

Research

http://www.urban75.com/Drugs/yaba.html

I found this website which tells you the effects of different types of drugs and alcohol which I thought would be useful since I have included alcoholism and drug abuse in my video. I wanted to gain a better understanding of these themes that I am displaying so that I could portray a realistic representation.

Fonts

I used a website called 'Dafont' to get a creative font for my music magazine advert. I wanted the font to be quite digital since the album is called 'Digital Kids' therefore it would be representative of the album name. I chose the font by David Chung because it was different to the usual typewriter style and I thought it would look good on my magazine because the writing is quite distorted which resembles how the music video is disjointed.

Third draft of music magazine advert

This is the third draft of my music magazine advert. I have added a faded background to add some colour to my advert because I feel like it was too plain and a bit boring. I think this draft links in with my digipak a lot more because I have used a similar image therefore the album cover will be a lot easier to recognise. I have added some icons such as the pre order on iTunes icon because the album is not out yet therefore people would know where to go to pre order the album. This is also conventional to see on a music magazine because it encourages people to buy the album therefore increasing sales. I also added the sony music icon to establish the record label in which my artist would be under. I added the website for my artist because some people like to visit the website to find out information for things such as tour dates, links to videos, upcoming events or information about the artist/album. Overall I am quite happy with this draft however I will get some feedback before I make it my final draft.

First draft of Digipak

This is the first draft of my digipak. I am quite happy with it however I think I am going to change some of the inside images as they are quite repetetive. I have chosen to keep my digipak simple because I don't think it needs a huge amount of writing otherwise it will take the focus off the artist. I also think the simple look is quite conventional of an Indie genre since their budgets are lower than major labels therefore it wouldn't be produced in the same way and will use a lot more resources.

Second draft of music magazine advert

This is my second magazine advert. I prefer this a lot more to the other one because I think it is more visually appealing and the framing of it is better. I understand that there is a lot more that I need to add to this such as the label logo and information about dates etc which hopefully I will get done over the weekend. Overall I am happy with the magazine advert.

draft 3 of music video

Here is the third draft of my music video. I have no gaps in the footage and have completed the song however there are a few bits I need to tweak and change in order to make it look better such as cleaning up some of the editing and making some of the shots shorter however overall I am happy with the outcome of this draft.

Second draft of music magazine advert

This is my second draft of my music video. I just added a few details however after speaking to my teacher we think it would be better to use a close up image with just Maia's head so that all of the details can fit above her head.

First draft of music magazine advert

This is the first draft of my music magazine advert. There is quite a lot I want to add to it such as writing and a logo etc.

Filming diary 6

I managed to get a load of footage today since the rain held off and the weather was great. I think I got some really good shots and managed to film in 3 different locations therefore I can now begin to edit my music video.

I encountered a couple of problems whilst filming. Firstly I planned to film one of my locations down the fruit area in the old town however when we got there a lot of the buildings were under construction and were boarded off however this turned out great since we was asked by one of the warehouse owners if we wanted to film in his museum type building which made a great location for her to steal the wine. As we were leaving we found a set of three painted doors in red, orange and green that all had different faces. I was going to film down an alley with graffiti however I think these three doors looked a lot better and linked in with the theme of drug abuse better since the faces represent her change in personality when she takes the drugs and drinks the alcohol.
It was also a very sunny day which made some of the shots hard to get due to shadowing and the shot being too bright. For example I wanted to film Maia coming out of the tunnel however the sun created my shadow to project onto Maia's clothes which isn't very professional therefore I had to change the angle of the shot.

The props that I used today were:

  • A wine bottle (Around £4, Asda)
  • An old pill bottle(Around £2, Asda)
  • Eyeliner (£2.99, Superdrug)
  • Face wipes (£2, Superdrug)
Therefore the day was inexpensive and minimal whilst very enjoyable.
